Ok so my family is split up due to a divorce. My mom, and sisters (whom one lives with me) will NOT attend my son's b-day party if she thinks my dad will be there.
My dad doesn't give a care who is at the party just as long as my son is happy.
Last year my dad was VERY upset that he couldn't attend my son's first b-day party.
So now I'm stumped, should I drive my son 2 hours to go to grampa's house to have his part there (my dad remarried and so his wifes family will be there, I have no issue with them they are nice people)
OR
Should I stay home and invite people and tell my mom and sisters that my dad might be coming and to just get over themselves because the darn thing happened 10 years ago. Please help....

You want your son to be happy and surrounded by people who care about his happiness more than their own, right?

So do what is going to provide that atmosphere for him (and hope your mom and sisters grow up!)

My parents are divorced and not on speaking terms. We never have them at the same birthday party. Neither do my sister and brother. If they did, they would need to see each other 7 times a year, and they (and we for that matter) don't need that stress. My mother was very, very hurt by the divorce and to even see him is very painful for her.

Have two parties. Or, when you see one grandparent it's not officially a party, it's just a special visit to grandad or grandma. That's what we did as my kids grew up.

But don't force your parents to be at the same party. It's too hard on everyone.

do whatever is easier for you. if you have it at your house and your mom and sisters choose not to come, thats on them

tell them to grow up. it is your son's birthday and they should put their differences aside for his sake.
