I know most sippy cups nowadays have declared themselves "BPA-free", but does that really mean that they are safe to heat in the microwave?
My 2-year-old loves to have her milk warm or even slightly hot sometimes. What is the safest and best way to heat up her milk?

Ugh, I know... I hate that this stuff is so scary, so what I do is heat it up in the microwave in a glass measuring cup. I stir it to make the temperature consistent, check the temperature (I dip in a straw, put my finger over the top end to trap the milk in the straw, then put the straw in my mouth and release my finger at the other end. Old bartender trick to sample the drink without contaminating it!)

Voila, pour it into your little pumpkins sippie :)

If you are meant to put it in the microwave, it would say microwave safe either on the actual cup or on the packaging the cup came with. If you have discarded the packaging then google the cup brand and usually you can find the manufacturer's page that lists what is and is not recommended for the product.

People say never warm anything in the microwave because it does not heat evenly and parts of it may be much hotter than other parts and it can scald your child. Personally if the milk is not evenly heated in the microwave, can't you just stir it up or shake it to mix it together. It is a liquid right? and then of course test it on your arm or your mouth for temperature.

Not in the microwave for sure. What I do now mine is 2, is to add a splash of boiling water straight from the kettle....it only takes a spoonful to heat up a sippy cup....then I stir it to avoid hot spots....and she never knows it has a splash of water in it.

heat it up in a sauce pan over the stove or heat it up in a mug or something similar and then pour it into the cup. make sure you stir it so that it's evenly heated before you pour it in her cup.

you could microwave because BPA isn't in there -- that won't leach into the milk. but heating up plastics in general might cause leaching of something or another and I'd feel better myself avoiding it all together.

you should NEVER EVER EVER microwave ANYTHING you intend on giving to a child. THAT IS SO DANGEROUS!!! you could scald her little mouth. The safest way is to swish it in a bowl or pan of warm, not hot water.
