Hi! My 8 month old has been in daycare since she was 3 months old. With the holidays coming near my husband and I started to stress about what to give the women at daycare for the holidays. A friend says you give them a weeks pay....we already pay alot for daycare (more than 1/2 my paycheck!) & there are 5 women who work there (it's a dozen+ babies/kids all together there).

I don't want to seem cheap...especially since they work so hard & take care of my baby. What should I give them?

i have 3 boys and the 2 ladies that watch them get a 10 dollar gift card from each of the boys, last year i think we did a walmart, subway and 1 4 our local movie theater they usually are pretty excited about it so i spend 30 dollars on each of them but i think 60 dollars is my max even if there were 5 of them

OMG, a weeks pay? I wish I used to work at THAT daycare, lol. When I worked daycare any gift from the parent(s) was appreciated...one time I got a $20 giftcard and one time a bottle of shower gel from Bath & Body. I think a weeks pay is overboard, although very generous. If you pay out over half of what you make already I don't see the sense in going in debt; I mean I realize they care for your child however they get paid hourly/salary as well so it's not like they're doing it for free.

I used to enjoy getting just cards from people, just something to recognize the fact that "Hey, you're special in my child's life, thank you for taking such good care of him/her". Nothing fancy is required; they may even appreciate it more if you asked if the classroom needed anything and then get one or two general gifts because a lot of times "teachers" buy their own things for daycares (toys, crayons, buckets for items, etc) so they may appreciate that.

Good luck and good for you for thinking of them in the first place!

a weeks pay!! geeze i wish I would have gotten that... I worked in day care and for holidays I got things such as gas gift cards (which are really nice if they have to travel to work and with gas prices being fairly high)... restruant gift cards are always nice... anything that is relaxing candles, spa items (bubble bath, loation ect) Also things that were really nice were just a framed picture of the daycare provider and the child (I think those type of things were the most meaningful) and also just a really nice card expressing you apperication

I think it's the jester that means a lot. Why don't you give them each a $5 or $10 gift card to Starbucks and a nice note? Anything goes a long way especially if you really like them.

Is your friend on crack by any chance?? A weeks pay?? That is insane! Yes, they are taking care of your child, but they are getting paid each week to do so.

Since there are 5 of them, you could bring in treats one morning, coffee, juice, bagels, donuts, fruit, etc. Also, maybe buy a toy or something for the center. Get them a candle, gift card, etc.

Giving gifts is about the thought...

How about catering them a lunch? Depending on how fancy from Subway to Olive Garden you can spend just about any price you can afford.

There's no tipping for that it's their job. Take my advise you don't want to start socializing with the help. lol.
