To be honest they are not learning ballet at three, they are gaining motor development and getting used to a class environment. Teaching ballet to three year olds is a lot like babysitting. Keep your expectations realistic. Most teachers prefer you do not stay, but if your child is not comfortable with that give it a two class trial, and if it is still a problem he or she may not be ready for the experience.
Most professional schools of ballet will not even let them into pre-ballet until they turn four. Professional schools tend to be non-profit so they can do this. Ballet for three year olds is a money maker for a small studio, but a legitimate studio will be upfront about what you are really getting out of it. The term pre-ballet is a hint, and if the class is for four to five it is also a hint you are dealing with a professional school. For a three year old look for classes labeled “creative movement” or “parent and me” and you will have a better experience. I would try the community center, and if he or she shows a talent or love of ballet look for a classical ballet studio that is not a “tap, jazz, hip-hop, and ballet school” but a pure classical ballet studio, there is a huge difference.

I tried with my 3 year old girl a few months ago... She didn't like the same movement over and over (The ballet instructors teach them almost same thing every time). So, after few weeks, she decided to just sit against the wall. If your girl loves or don't mind same routine then I think it's worth try but if she tends to lose interest for same stuff in short time then forget it... But every kid is different so if the fee is not that expensive then why not give it a try? The outfit is cheap at wal-mart or if you are lucky then try Marshall discount store for the body suit I got mine at Marshall for $5. But for ballet shoes, you have to ask the instructor.

I started ballet when I was three!!! I retired from ballet when I was 19 and at the time I was dancing in the San Franciso Ballet Co. They also payed 50% of my college education! It was good for me!!!! I enjoyed it. You may want to stay and watch for a while and then start leaving a little bit at a time!!!
Good luck and enjoy!

As far as leaving her there, it may depend on the teacher--some want you to stay, others do not. And it may depend on your child. Does she separate well?
If she has a hard time saying good-bye, you might want to find a class that allows parents to stay or wait until she is a little older.

it depends both of my twin daughters went and i (or my dad_ paid $400 a session and you had to pay for 10 sessions at once and only one of them was interested in it but both of them said they wanted to. It costed so much because it was a upscale studio in Beverly hills so when we should be at ballet we're at the park or something as a family.

being 3 years old your child won't always pay attention and may not be the best but it can be a good experince for her.you should stay there the first couple of days just for her to get use to it,it may be frighting for her if you just leave her there with people she dosen't know.
