My one year olds diet is supplemented with pediasure. As many moms know pediasure costs a fortune, even if you only use two ready made bottles a day. I have not tried the parents choice brand, but I did notice the 3 dollar cost difference. Any opinions? I am not big on store brand items, I have had bad experiences with store brand wipes and diapers. However this would save a lot of money.

Check the labels...sometimes it's EXACTLY the same stuff.

We used the Pediasure brand for my son for a while, but when his behavior got out of hand, I took the time to look at the ingredients. There is a ton of sugar in them, and I researched it further and there are 5 types of sugar in one little bottle! They are so unnecessary. We were using them for my son because he was off of baby food and formula, but went through spots while teething where he didn't eat a whole lot of food in a day and he wasn't gaining weight. After I found out how bad they were, we took him off of them though and he started eating like crazy and started sleeping and acting better within a couple days.

So then when my daughter passed her first birthday still refusing any and all food (including baby food - she never ate one bite of anything until she was 18 months old and now at 21 months you would never know - she eats everything in sight!) we wanted her to continue to get nutrition but also to come on to milk. What we did with her was mix some of the second stage 9-24 month old formula in to her milk twice a day. That way she got the fat calories from milk, but all of the nutrition from the formula that she was missing. I would recommend you do that.

Pediasure = junk. You could do a lot better with a blender, cream, fruit and a vitamin supplement.

Useful reading from somebody's blog: http://mangobounce.blogspot.com/2007/06/pediasure-vs-chocolate-ice-cream.html

"if your toddler needs to gain weight, should you give her pediasure? or premium chocolate ice cream? as it turns out, the ice cream will do the same job the pediasure does (once you add in a vitamin supplement), and it's nutritionally superior and more healthful. plus, it's far less expensive!"
