Question:
Would you think that it is a bad thing to get a 4 year old and 2 year old their own lap top?

My husband says it should wait until the kids are older. I think that if his sister's daughter has one (She is 6) that both of my older 2 deserve one. They are 4 years old and 2 years old. I was going to buy it for Christmas/Birthday time. As my daughter turns 5 three days after Christmas and my son turns 3 a month later.

Do you think that toddlers deserve to get the same things as their cousins?

Well, if you have the money, that is wonderful!

But I think that if they already have a computer that works- why get a new one? Or maybe, you could get them their new ones, and donate the old one to someone who is in need.

Teaching children selflessness is a wonderful thing!!

Teaching our children that they have the best shouldn't be about material things. As long as they are loved and have the things that they need to survive- this is what should really matter.

But sadly, this is not the culture we live in.

Good luck with your laptop argument!

I personally think that a 4 year old and a 2 year old are too young to have their own laptop. It's great to have them play some age appropriate games on yours, but they do not need their own. Wait until they are a bit older and can use them for school or other things than just playing games. Laptops are too expensive to just be used as toys!

Toddlers don't need to have the exact same things are their cousins have. It is not a competition. They might not even be interested in the same things. Give your children what you feel is right for them. Not what is right for their cousins.

There are many games out there on the market for young computer users that help them learn (from reading to math...etc...). I have babysat for a couple who had children the exact same age as you do (two boys though), and they had their own computer. It was a cheap one but it played the games that they boys loved. I also work at a daycare and there are computers in the rooms starting in our early preschool room (age of the children in that room is 2 1/2). I think getting them a computer is a great idea if used for learning purposes, but I would not recommend buying an expensive one. Go with one that is easily replaced because at the toddler/preschool age accidents tend to happen.

well...i have seen what children that age can do to a computer. i would say no. it's an expensive piece of equipment, and really, a child that age has no use for a computer except for games. get them a new game player of some sort...but after working with kids for the past 5years, i can confidently say that the laptop will be pretty useless in less than a year...it will get dropped, colored on, spilled on, stickers, etc....and no just because a cousin has it doesn't mean your kids need it! maybe once they get in middle school. but it's your choice.

i think its a big waste of money to buy a laptop for a 2 and 4 year old,. how long before they knock it off and break it, or otherwise tear it up. and it doesn't matter what their cousin has, you aren't their cousins parent. if the neighbors bought their kid a helicopter would you run out and buy them one too so they didn't feel left out?

very very bad idea to buy a laptop for kids so young.

Children that age should be doing different things than playing on a computer, to develop their brains. They need to be doing things like drawing, looking at books, singing, dancing, using their imagination, building things such as Lego's, etc. Your sister is not doing the right thing with her child, why should you follow? Be a better parent!

are you talking about a toy laptop cuz other wise that is crazy!!!! children of that age of no sense of value and should only use such things under strict supervision so unless you just wanna throw away $500 then i would skip it. and no its not a competition and you are only going to teach your children jealousy by getting them things because their cousins have it!!!!!

a real laptop...yeah, they are too young. toy laptops designed for their age group is a great tool though. They deserve to get things designed for their age and them, not their cousins.

No, every family is different, and if you start making it a point that they deserve everything that someone else has your asking for problems when they get older.

Four year olds and two year olds do NOT need their own lap tops. What they NEED is a parent who isn't too lazy to parent them, sadly it sounds as if your kids has a parent too lazy to do their job. What children NEED is fresh air and exercise, a romp on a playground, going down the slide, swinging in the swings, climbing, jumping, running. They don't need to be taught to be lazy assed dimwitted morons.
